Once we receive your completed application, we pass it on to truck driving companies located throughout the state of New York. Which companies we send it to depends on the information you provide. We work with both you and the trucking companies to ensure we match you with the companies that can best fit your career needs.
What are the requirements to obtain a New York state CDL?
In order to obtain a CDL from the state of New York, you must confirm that you have not held a driver’s license from any other state besides New York within the past ten years. If you have, you will be required to report which state(s) you held valid licenses from within the last ten years. Holding a valid CDL from another state may make you eligible to obtain one in New York, but you will be required to surrender it.
Drivers are also required to have a medical exam completed every two years. Upon applying for a New York CDL, you will be required to present a current, valid medical examiner’s certificate. If you do not have one, you must get one from a licensed medical examiner. Certificates are valid for exactly two years.
What are the requirements for obtaining a HazMat endorsement in the state of New York?
As of 2005, New York state law requires background checks for all New York commercial drivers applying for a hazardous materials (HazMat) endorsement to check for criminal violations and convictions.
Drivers must provide fingerprints for both federal and state requirements and pass a written test given at your local DMV office.
I have a current, valid out-of-state CDL but will be applying for one in New York. Do all states have the same or similar CDL written exams?
While all states must meet certain federal requirements, there are differences and distinctions between each state’s CDL exam. Consult the New York State Commercial Driver’s Manual to help you suitably prepare for the New York CDL exam.
How much does it cost to apply for a New York state CDL?
There is a required $40 fee for the road test, which must be paid prior to scheduling the test. If you are applying for any endorsements, there will also be additional fees for those.
How much does it cost to renew my New York state CDL?
The renewal fee for a Class A, B, or C commercial driver’s license is $130 and remains valid for eight years.
